Crochet Braids- Round 2!

crochet braids I am so loving my second set of crochet braids. My stylist re-did them for my birthday! Listed below are some differences between this set and my last set!

  1. I used 5 packs of hair instead of three. My stylist did NOT cut any of this hair but it shrunk when she curled it.
  2. I used Zury Marley hair instead of Jamaican Equal Twist Braid. Zury is so much softer as well as smoother. I purchased it for $4.99 per pack at a beauty supply store in Bowie.
  3. My stylist did an invisible/knot free part in the middle. Click here to watch the tutorial for that technique.
  4. This time around she didn’t use any products on the Marley hair before putting the perm rods on. She just blow dried the hair straight, put the perm rods on and dipped them in scorching hot water. No cream, no products! Below are two pictures of my curls right after all the perm rods were removed. The curls were still damp. In my opinion, the hair curls better and the curls hold better without all that product weighing them down. I think they also look better.
  5. This time when I sleep, I put my hair in two loose pigtail and then put on my hair net. Before, I would just put on my hair net. The hair got matted easily and was looking ROUGH. Kinda like the pic below. The pigtail help to keep the curls neat and intact.Slightly ROUGH

Currently those are the only differences I can recall. I plan to rock this set until the wheels fall off. I’m certain I’ll keep them in much longer than the last set. It’s been two weeks so far and my stylist re-dipped about six curls. They’ve been holding up very well but I also attribute that to the fact that I haven’t been going to Zumba. My hair didn’t even grow that long when I took out my first set but it was much fuller. On the left is my blow out from August after aΒ  serious trim in June. The right pic is my blow out in early Nov after taking out my first set of crochet braids

Please let me know if you have any questions or want my stylist’s contact info. She owns a salon in Bowie, MD.

Also, I watched this video here before removing my first set because I didn’t know how to take crochet braids out.

You’re welcome! I can’t wait to see you rock em in 2015. I hope you can get the hair too. It’s really good, I had never heard of it until I bought it. I was so hesitant about getting it because I hadn’t heard of it. I’m so glad I bought it anyways.

Love this style on you- it has a certain joie de vivre, like you have to go round skipping when you wear it permanently to highlight the bounce! I know this was a hair post but you know my eyes were on THAT necklace!

Hey Valerie! Well when I sleep, I usually put my crochet braids into two ponytails to avoid it getting clumped and matted together. I find that helps. Then in the morning I pick the hair apart and fluff it up. Occasionally, when it looks dry, I put a little coconut oil on it or spray a little oil sheen. I hope this helps πŸ™‚
