Happy Thanksgiving Eve!
Birthdays are a great time for reflecting, goal setting and thanksgiving.
Do You Feel Old?
This past Saturday (11/21) I turned 28! My mom asked me if I was feeling old.
I told her no and anyone else that asked me that. I don’t. I just feel VERY BLESSED. “Old” is subjective. Recently at a work meeting, my co-worker mentioned she would not be coming into work the next day because she had to attend her cousin’s funeral. My manager expressed her condolences and then asked my co-worker how old her cousin was. She replied 64 years old. My manager then responded with “Oh my, that’s so young”. Keep in mind that my manager and co-worker are both old enough to be my mom. I mentioned this example to reiterate that “old” is truly subjective. To some 64 is old but it’s young to my co-worker and manager.
May your years be counted not by your age but by how you spend your days.
I feel BLESSED
I feel blessed to turn 28 and to be in good health. This year my cousin and her unborn baby died. My cousin was only 32. My dad who has diabetes had his second leg amputated. In addition, two former classmates of mines (not even 30) both passed away. One was hit by two cars while crossing the street and the other was killed while driving a motorcycle.
Everyday of life should be celebrated and appreciated. Don’t wait until your birthday. However, don’t dread turning another year older because it is a blessing. Some don’t get the opportunity. Celebrate your age no matter what society thinks of that age. Remember that “old” is subjective and YOU define what old is. If you think you’re old, you will feel old. If you count your blessings, you will feel very blessed.
A birthday is just the first day of another 365-day journey around the sun. Enjoy the trip! -Author Unknown
My 28th Birthday
My birthday was so nice. My lovely friends Aaya (left) & Becs (right) pictured below treated me to a yummy brunch at Scion Restaurant in Silver Spring.
I bought this Angelina cloth from Eleganza Fashions in Hyattsville, MD. I took the cloth to my seamstress Janet and she kilt it. Let me know if you ever need a good seamstress and I will share her contact info because she is great! She made my birthday skirt last year also, see here. Becs got me this beautiful necklace from Tanzania! I can’t wait to (God-willing) visit Tanzania with her next year.
I was supposed to get big hair like YaYa as I mentioned here. However, my stylist couldn’t do it so I wore my Celie Twists aka Crown Twists. I just uploaded a video tutorial on how I do them since people always ask me. You can watch it here.
All in all, I was surrounded by lots of LOVE on my birthday. The best gift I received was the gift of life and good health! I THANK GOD for that.
Thank you for reading and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
