I haven’t written a hair post/hair update in ages. I’ve been rocking the same hairstyle since December, crochet braids with FreeTress water wave hair. I lacked motivation to discuss my hair because it was the same ish. I got tired and wanted my hair away from my face. I opted for big feeding cornrows. Coincidentally, last May also I got feeding cornrows. I took them out right before I left for Ghana and got my edges snatched, literally. My feeding cornrows last year were much smaller. This time around, I didn’t want anything too serious. I am sensitive about my edges and plus I’m not trying to leave it in forever. I wanted prison braids (that’s what I call straight back cornrows). However, I am not sure I have the head shape or face for that. I haven’t gotten prison braids since one summer in elementary school circa the 90s (the good ole days). Singers Ciara and Keyshia Cole (pictured below) are the inspiration for my current almost prison braids look. One day I’ll get them straight back so I can feel like a cast mate from Orange Is the New Black!
Keyshia Cole’s hair was done by @iamGlamFreak.
My hair before stepping into London’s Beautii transformation chamber.
I’m in a good place with my natural hair. Protective styling works best for me and it helps maintain the health of my hair. However, I will no longer leave my crochet braids in for more than two months. I don’t care how good they still look. If I wasn’t constantly sweating at zumba, I (lowkey) would. However, due to zumba and the constant sweating, I think it’s GROSS to go longer than a month so no more doing that.
I washed my hair with Shea Moisture Raw Shea Retention Shampoo. I usually purchase this from Target.
I deep conditioned my hair with Aubrey GPB Balancing Protein Conditioner – Nutrient Blast (on the left purchased at Whole Foods Market) and Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner (on the right purchased at Target). I deep conditioned for hours with a plastic bag on my head because I had other ish to do.
I blow dried my hair with my Silk Elements MegaSilk Heat Protection Spray (from Sally’s) and my Kirkland Signature Organic Virgin Coconut Oil Cold Pressed Unrefined from Costco. I also moisturized my hair with coconut oil when I was done.
Time to Style!
My hair was done by my stylist Darlynda at London’s Beautii located in Bowie, MD. This style is described as Goddess Braids on her Style Seat page. Click here to view her price(s) and other style services. She is amazing and she has been styling my hair since my college days circa 2008. She even did my big chop for me. I’ll leave London’s Beautii’s social media info below along with the booking website.
