6 tips on Practicing Self-Love

Practicing self-love is an ongoing process for many (including myself). It consists of being kind to yourself and loving yourself unconditionally, flaws and all. It’s difficult to love others when you don’t love yourself. In today’s post, I am sharing six tips below on how to practice self-love.


  1. Be kind to yourself.



    Cut out negative talk and disrespect towards yourself. If you wouldn’t say it to your friend or family, don’t say it to yourself. Power lies in the tongue (Proverbs 18:21) so speak positive words and think positive thoughts towards yourself.


  2. Eat well.



    When you feed your body nourishing foods, it’s like feeding your soul. It impacts your health and overall energy so nourish your body well with nutrient rich foods. EAT to LIVE.


  3. Workout.



     A workout can be a nice walk on the trail (see my boomerang video above), yoga, zumba class, soccer, basketball or any physical activity that you enjoy engaging in. Treat your body right and exercise but make sure you enjoy your exercise of choice.


  4. Say no.

    Sometimes we run ourselves ragged trying to be everywhere for everyone. We don’t want to step on any toes or offend anyone. Being a people pleaser and not setting boundaries is detrimental to one’s personal health (I am a testament to this). It’s stressful and does not fall in line with practicing self-love. It’s important to set boundaries and limits in order to avoid stress or burnout. Say no without explaining yourself and be done with it. Don’t overthink it and take care of yourself FIRST!


  5. Alone time.

    Practice self-love by dedicating time to yourself. Yes you! Take yourself out to the movies, your favorite restaurant, a spa, pamper yourself or read that book you’ve been meaning to read. Write down your thoughts and journal. Walk alone on the trail and clear your mind. Indulge in the daily activities that bring you joy and peace. Take a nap while you’re at it and catch up on some rest.


  6. Surround yourself with positive people.



    Practicing self-love means knowing when to remove yourself from unhealthy and toxic relationships. If a relationship or friendship constantly leaves you feeling drained and upset, walk away. Life is too precious to be surrounded by negative people and situations. You deserve better so cancel that ASAP. Above, I am pictured with my bestie of over 20 years! She has always has a positive impact in my life. We uplift and sharpen one another. That’s what healthy relationships and friendships do.
